UNIVERSITY, TIRUPATI:
Sri Venkateswara University is
established on 2nd September, 1954 with great wisdom and motto
“Wisdom lies in proper perspective” as the brain-child of great visionary
luminaries, Late Sri Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, Late Sri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy
and others. Christened after Sri Venkateswara, the Lord of the seven hills, the
university is located in the sprawling campus of 1000 acres with panoramic and
pleasant environment, is known for its beautiful buildings, serenity and clean
surroundings at the back drop of the famous Tirumala-Tirupati Hills. The University
has grown excellently from strength to strength over the past fifty seven years
with great mission that is to develop qualified and competent citizens through
teaching and training, to expand the horizons of knowledge through research, to
lend knowledge and support to various organizations for their effective
functioning, to contribute to the creation of a happy and healthy society
through fruitful interactions, to participate in the development of the society
and to cater to the educational needs and aspirations of the peoples in the
society. The University is constituted into four colleges with a total of 54
departments offering 73 post graduate courses. They are being offered with 450
well qualified teaching faculty, 1800 non-teaching staff and 7500 students
including research scholars and has been moving forward in achieving academic
excellence with a strong commitment and dedicated approach by clearly setting
up of a vision of its own. Sri Venkateswara University has unenviable record
nationally & internationally with respect of research, academic excellence
and conferences, accredited with ‘A” grade by NAAC and was ranked 17 in the top
20 universities, and 36 among the top 100 research institutions in India by
National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCIR),
New Delhi.
About
DST-PURSE
Recently, based on academic achievements of
the teaching fraternity and research in Science and Technology, the Department
of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, has recognized the S.V. University
as one of the best 29 universities in the country. To that effect, the DST has
sanctioned an amount of Rs. 9 Crores for the development of advanced scientific
laboratory for the promotion of science and technology areas in the form of special
package namely PURSE Programme (Promotion of University Research and Scientific
Excellence), DST, Government of India has already identifies several science
& Engineering departments in S. V. University as academically vibrant and
sanctioned FIST Programmes, a remarkable achievement on the part of the S.V.
University.
